Christopher's SIBERIAN HUSKY RANCH

Common Health issues of a Siberian Husky are, eye problems and hip dysplasia.

Breeders often have their breeding stock "CERFed" so they can avoid passing along genetic eye diseases. Make sure you ask your breeder is they do this important testing!

A CERF exam is a comprehensive eye exam performed by a certified veterinary ophthamoligist. CERF exams can uncover a wide range of inherited eye problems, including conditions affecting the eyelids, cornea (surface of eye), iris ( colored portion of the eye), lens, retina and oplic disc ( in the back of the eye). Juvenile cataracts, corneal dstrophy and progressive retinal atrophy in young dogs are specific conditions evaluated on a CERF exam.

Hip Dysplasia is NOT often found in this breed, however, as with many medium or larger-size canines, it can occur.

So What is Hip Dysplasia? The term dysplasia means abnormal growth thus hip dysplasia means abnormal growth or development of the hips. Hip dysplasia occurs during a puppy' growing phase.
